According to Estadio Deportivo, Real Betis want to offer long-term contracts to Leeds United defender Diego Llorente.
According to a Spanish news outlet (28 June), Betis hopes to persuade the player to join the club by paying him a suitable salary.
Llorente has settled in Italy, where he has been on loan to Roma since January 2023.
Roma want to recruit Llorente on loan again, while Betis would want to buy the 30-year-old, who is more suitable for Leeds.
Will Diego Llorente, the Leeds United defender, join Roma or Real Betis?
This is an encouraging report for the Whites.
One thing is certain: Llorente’s future appears to be away from Elland Road. He has spent the last year and a half on loan away from the club, thus it appears unlikely that he will play for the Whites again.
As a result, they will be aiming to get the best offer for the defender, which Betis’ plans make much easier.
If it had only been Roma in the race, Leeds could have had no choice but to accept their loan offer.
This would not have suited the club because Llorente’s contract expires in two years. As a result, they will be eager to get him off their books this summer to avoid him entering the final year of his contract.
It appears that all that remains is for Llorente to be persuaded to relocate to Spain, which should not be too difficult given the deal Betis is offering.
