Leeds united are excited to have former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive contributor, providing his insights on the latest news at Leeds United every week.
Paul Robinson believes Diego Llorente will be a transfer target for Paris Saint-Germain after failing at Leeds. United appears to prefer European leagues over the Premier League.
Foot Mercato reported on January 19 that the Ligue 1 giants, who were named the third-richest club in the world football following last season by Deloitte this week, were negotiating a contract for the Whites defender, who is presently on loan at Roma.
The Spaniard had become a crucial player for the now-fired Jose Mourinho at the Stadio Olimpico, appearing in 25 games for the Italian club this season and now being linked with a January transfer to the Parc des Prices.
It would be a stunning leap from struggling to get a game in a Leeds United defence that yielded a Premier League-high 78 goals on the way to relegation last season, but Sky Sports analyst Robinson believes it is simply a case of the 30-year-old not fitting in in the English top flight.
“I think he found the Premier League hard, the pace and tempo of it,” the former England and Elland Road goalkeeper told MOT Leeds News exclusively.
“But there were those performances where he demonstrated the talent that he has displayed at Roma since his arrival.
“I believe he found it difficult in a failing squad, and we all know Leeds struggled for results last season, which is why they were relegated.
“And he struggled in a leaky defence, which made the Premier League difficult for him.
“Different leagues around Europe suit different players, and we’ve seen that so it may be the case with Llorente.”
In other Leeds United news, a “change of heart” has emerged as the club seeks to sign a new defender before the deadline.
