The Kilmarnock manager called out a U-turn from the man in the center during the defeat at Rugby Park.
Former Premier League official Dermot Gallagher has informed Kilmarnock manager Derek McInnes that the referee was correct to controversially reverse a call that resulted in a Rangers equaliser.
Don Robertson, the man in the center, granted a corner kick from which the visitors levelled at the start of the second half, despite first appearing to award a goal kick to Kilmarnock following Ianis Hagi’s effort. James Tavernier delivered into the box before Cyriel Dessers levelled the score, and Rangers went on to win 4-2.
Irked boss McInnes pointed out after the full-time whistle the whistler had performed a U-turn over the call after input from the linesman – as he insisted there was no touch from a Killie player before the ball trickled out. However, Gallagher leapt to the defence of Robertson.
Speaking to Sky Sports’ Ref Watch, he insisted the incident wouldn’t have been discussed had Dessers not found the net seconds after he flashpoint. He said: “I think this is (a talking point) because of consequence rather than the decision.
“I do think this is a corner. I do think the ball strikes the defender and goes out for a corner. I think the referee is quite right. He gives the goal kick but has then probably had some input – it becomes a talking point because they score from it.”
