The former Liverpool and Aston Villa striker has conveyed the devastating news that his mother has died.
Stan Collymore, a former Liverpool forward, has shared the terrible news that his mother has died aged 94. The former Reds player resorted to social media on Sunday to provide the touching update.
In a poignant homage to X, he wrote: “It is with tremendous grief and deepest sorrow that I announce the demise of my beloved mother, Doreen Collymore, today, aged 94.
“Many people in Cannock, Villa, and the clubs I played for knew her and always asked how she was, which she loved and appreciated, so I’m passing on the news so that those who may have met her, even briefly, can pay their respects.”
“I held her hand and stroked her head as she passed on and although grief is very fresh, as a Son my gratitude for being lucky enough to have such a genuinely wonderful person as my Mom is my overriding emotion today and always will be.”
“I’ll announce funeral arrangements for anyone who knew her and can join us in honoring her life in due order. The two photographs are of the first and final time we were together, and what a journey they represent. “Mom, why do you love me?” “Because you’re mine.”
Collymore started his football career with Walsall’s youth squad before moving to local rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers. After being let go by Wolves, the Staffordshire-born striker joined non-league Stafford Rangers in 1990.
His remarkable goal-scoring record drew the interest of Premier League heavyweights Liverpool and England. After two seasons at Anfield, Collymore joined Aston Villa, a team he had followed since childhood.
