‘Decision is made’: ‘Outstanding’ player says he’s leaving on a free in 2025 after claims Liverpool want him

Liverpool normally keeps their cards close to their chest in the transfer market, and they have proven throughout the years that they will not be compelled to spend significant money.

Federico Chiesa was the lone player to visit Anfield during the summer transfer season, while the Reds did negotiate an agreement in principle to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia in 2025.

Other players, such as Martin Zubimendi, were linked with Liverpool, but a move never occurred since he chose to stay with his childhood club.

Jonathan Tah is another player who has strong admirers at Anfield, with Bayern Munich also interested in the German international.

Despite uncertainty about his future, the Bayer Leverkusen player has now stated that he would not be with the club next season.

Jonathan Tah admits his wish to depart, despite Liverpool interest.

According to Fabrizio Romano on X, Tah has announced that he will not renew his current deal with Leverkusen, which expires next summer.

“I am not going to sign a new contract with Bayer Leverkusen. My decision has been made.

“I will give my all till the conclusion here, and then we will decide about my future club. But I’ve decided to go and try something different.”

With Tah set to be available on a free transfer, teams across the continent will be lining up to snap him up after the turn of the year.

Tah might be an opportunistic acquisition for Liverpool

Liverpool have always maintained an eye on market chances, with the arrivals of Mamardashvili and Chiesa falling in that category.

Tah has played over 350 games for Leverkusen and has 29 caps for Germany, making him an enticing transfer target.

Liverpool abstained from entering the market for a central defender following Joel Matip’s exit, but with the 28-year-old due to become available next summer, they may consider a bid for him.

Tah, rated as a ‘excellent’ defender by the Bundesliga’s official website, is expected to become a sought-after player in the coming months.

Whether Liverpool will pursue him remains to be seen.
