Even if the window closes, a move is still possible. Leeds United are said to be in talks about selling a high-earning Elland Road player on a permanent basis.
Connor Roberts signs with Leeds.
The Whites and Daniel Farke waited until the end of the January transfer window to bring in much-needed defensive reinforcements, with right-back Connor Roberts on loan from Burnley.
The Wales international joins fellow countrymen Ethan Ampadu, Dan James, and Joe Rodon in Yorkshire, and he immediately appears to be looking to make his stay with the Whites permanent. After joining, Roberts said:
“Football is a funny game, so I’ll be doing my best to make a good impression on and off the pitch, and maybe in the future it will alter from a direct loan, but for the time being, I’ll simply come here and try to help on and off the pitch.
“The goal is to be promoted, and it doesn’t matter if that means playing half the games, all of the games, or just a handful. I just want to be smiling alongside the rest of the lads at the end of the season.”
Leeds failed to sign more defenders and let some players leave in the dying hours of the transfer season, notably youngsters Ian Poveda and Sean McGurk, who joined Sheffield Wednesday and Swindon Town, respectively.
Even though the time has passed, it appears that Leeds could still conduct some business with one of their loanees who left over the summer.
Luis Sinisterra’s Permanent Transfer Update
According to reputable writer Graham Smyth of The Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds are in negotiations with Bournemouth about making Luis Sinisterra’s loan stay with the Cherries permanent.
He adds that ‘an agreement between Leeds and Bournemouth is understood to be close and may be completed over the course of the next week’, with a £20 million+ deal on the table. Sinisterra actually departed Leeds for Bournemouth on deadline day this summer, with Jaidon Anthony joining on loan from the south coast.
Since then, neither Anthony nor Sinisterra have secured a starting berth for Leeds or Bournemouth. Anthony has mostly played from the bench in the Championship for Leeds, whereas Sinisterra has only made three Premier League starts.
However, Andoni Iraola and the Cherries certainly like what they see in the Colombia international, and it appears that Leeds may as well. Set a reasonably high cost for the £65,000-per-week winger to help with future FFP compliance.
What this means for Anthony’s long-term future remains to be seen, and who knows, it might pave the way for a permanent Elland Road move in the summer, making this one to monitor.
