David Prutton has spoken out about Daniel Farke’s future at Leeds United, following the club’s failure to gain promotion to the Premier League.
After being pipped to automatic promotion by Leicester City and Ipswich Town, Leeds advanced to the Championship play-off final before losing 1-0 to Southampton at Wembley.
Many expected Farke to get the present squad out of the league at the first opportunity, owing to his experience in the division with Norwich City, but they will have to settle for another promotion struggle.
Prutton wrote in the Yorkshire Evening Post on Monday (3 June): “It pretty definitely sounds like Daniel Farke is going to continue in command, and is that the right decision? I believe that given what he has done when given the necessary tools at Norwich, automatic promotion appears to be an inevitability.
“So, if he had a group of players capable of doing what his Norwich team did, certainly. Who else out there might be asked the same question and thrust into the same situation?
“There are guys like Steve Cooper, but Cooper only did it once; Farke has done it twice. I’m not suggesting it makes Daniel Farke twice as excellent, but if you want promotion, hire individuals who have accomplished it, which is exactly what Daniel has done. It is now up to them to decide if he has the appropriate players and the strongest squad to do it.
Daniel Farke is expected to stay as Leeds United manager.
Even with the enormous quantity of quality in the Championship this season, no one predicted the three-horse race at the top of the table, and Farke deserves little blame.
While Leeds did slip up towards the conclusion of the league season, in games that should have been won, the team had been nearly flawless up to that point, a standard that no one should be held to.
As previously said, Farke has past experience with promotion from the Championship, having done so twice with Norwich, so it is not surprising to see the manager with full support from the administration at Elland Road.
The Whites are poised for a summer of change after missing out on promotion, with numerous players set to leave the club, but Farke will be expected to make the best of a bad position and assist Leeds return to the Premier League next season.
