David Prutton believes Leeds United can win the Championship title this season

Leeds United will meet Leicester City in the Championship on Friday night at Elland Road, and this is a huge game for them.

The Whites sit second in the league, nine points behind the Foxes, but they have a fantastic opportunity here to close the deficit to three points.

According to Sky Sports analyst David Prutton, if Leeds win tonight (February 23), the Championship crown may be a “very realistic target” for them.

The Whites have been dominant in 2024, winning all of their games since the turn of the year. Daniel Farke’s team has won eight consecutive games, and the confidence emanates from this.

Prutton also argues that the atmosphere at Elland Road might make a significant difference.

“But a huge part of what could potentially favour Leeds come the end of the season is that crowd, which could be an advantage for them,” wrote Prutton for the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“The fact that it’s on a Friday night simply adds to the mystique of a packed Elland Road under the lights, and it’s going to be absolutely spectacular.

“If the gap reaches six points, Leeds can still win the title. Of course. That would put them in a position where it is no longer insurmountable, and it becomes a very feasible objective, based on what we’ve seen from them and what we know they are capable of.”

Leeds is engaging in an exciting contest for promotion.

This is widely regarded as one of the season’s most important games, and Leeds are fully prepared. A win here would be huge for the Whites, and they will be confident that they can go the distance without conceding too many points.

To be fair, Farke won’t be thinking about winning the title right now. Leeds have taken one game at a time, ignoring everything else. Even if Leicester loses tonight, they will need to drop more points to allow Leeds to catch up. It is a lengthy voyage.

What should be particularly exciting is that a thrilling race for promotion is now underway. Leeds and Ipswich have the same number of points, but Southampton, who are only two points behind, may also believe they have a chance here.
