David Edgar shares four-word reaction as Rangers star seals transfer

Following the confirmation of Alex Lowry’s permanent move from Rangers to Wycombe Wanderers, David Edgar gave his four-word response.

In response to the Gers’ own post, the Heart and Hand podcaster wrote on X on January 21 to wish the 21-year-old midfielder luck as his expected transfer to the EFL League One team was finalized.

Lowry, an academy graduate who progressed through Auchenhowie’s ranks, had only made 14 appearances for the Light Blues since his debut in 2022 and had missed the previous two seasons’ first team action.

Edgar’s response was succinct and to the point: “I hope he does well.”

Alex Lowry completes the unavoidable Rangers move.

It is hardly surprising that Lowry has left for pastures new in order to gain some first-team experience, considering he hasn’t played in a light blue shirt since the end of the 2022–2023 season.

Lowry’s loan deal to Hearts was terminated in January 2024, midway through the previous season. Since then, he has been forced to play for the Gers on the extended bench or just in B Team games.

Lowry was anticipated to leave early this month, either on loan or permanently, as was fellow academy product Adam Devine, another player whose minutes have recently totaled zero.

Rather than remaining north of the border though, Lowry will now ply his trade in England’s third tier with Wycombe, hoping to finally stake his first-team claims away from Rangers’ high-pressure environment.

Ibrox can be a powder-keg of atmosphere and expectation at the best of times, and given this hardly allows for the development of youngsters to be prioritised, a change of scenery could see Lowry thrive.
