Rangers’ modern history has been as tumultuous as any team in international football, with administration, domestic league success, a European final, and the club needing to be rebuilt again.
The correct individuals arrived at Ibrox as Blue Knights in 2015 to put an end to years of neglect, but now is the time for change, with the San Francisco 49ers consortium’s takeover attempt.
Dave King has moderated the excitement that has risen during the week, but the former Rangers chairman has proven to be a man of his word.
Will Dave King be the Rangers’ savior again?
King expressed his discontent with the present board early this season, even offering his services for a period of time to help turn things around.
After being turned down, the South African businessman has adopted a different approach to putting the club on the right track, with past comments indicating that he has known what needed to be done for a long time:
“I estimate that the Club needs a minimum of £50million to achieve our short to medium term objectives but that could never be raised under the present board structure,” stated King regarding changes.
“The funds we need must come from a far wider and wealthier base and from parties that will be willing to invest more (over time) to take the Club forward and to become a modern age football club.”
King finds the ideal match for the Rangers’ rebirth.
The 49ers Enterprises group, as well as the rest of the consortium, will not want to just invest money in the Rangers without seeing a return. They are successful businesspeople for a reason.
What they perceive, however, is an opportunity. An opportunity to create a successful business.
Rangers’ performance on the pitch will result in financial gain.
Fans and shareholders will both be satisfied.
As King stated, a significant amount of money is required to get Rangers back on track; for context, his estimate of £50 million is equivalent to one season in the Champions League.
King was the right guy to salvage Rangers in 2015, and for all his bluster, he’ll be the right person in 2025 as well, even if it means losing ties with the team he loves.
