TNT Sports commentator Darren Fletcher has expressed his concerns regarding Nottingham Forest.
The Reds have limped to the finish line this season and should now remain in the Premier League.
Only a 12-goal difference between Forest and Luton on the last day could see the Reds relegated from here.
Forest will make judgments on a number of players this summer, and the issue will be to ensure they are ready to go next season.
Fletcher has openly stated that he is quite displeased with one aspect of this season and has challenged Forest to improve.
Darren Fletcher discusses his concerns about Nottingham Forest.
This season has been a bit of a disaster from a Forest standpoint.
A difficult season has seen the team surrender the most goals from set pieces in the division, suffer a four-point deduction, and fire a manager revered by the fans.
However, Fletcher is apprehensive about next season due to the league’s competitive nature.
He told the Forest Focus podcast, “It was relief mixed with disappointment because I was hoping they’d pick up a little bit and they just haven’t.”
“I’m a little disappointed that we’re back in what I believe is a very weak Premier League in terms of the bottom three, and the fact that Forest are the closest team to those three is troubling.
“It outlines the kind of work that needs to be done in the summer.”
Forest needs to be better next season.
It’s difficult to disagree with Fletcher given how horrible the league has been this year.
However, clubs like Brighton ended 17th for two years in a row when they initially gained promotion, so it’s not the end of the world.
The challenge is to improve, and maybe Forest can do so next season.
If Nuno Espirito Santo leaves the club, it will be a blow since he most likely deserves a pre-season and a chance.
However, Evangelos Marinakis may have higher ambitions, which could lead him to another alternative as head coach.
The Premier League will be a tougher competition in 2024/25, and Forest cannot afford to remain so inconsistent next season.
