Leeds United took a huge step towards Premier League promotion with a 3-1 victory over Sheffield United on Monday.
Daniel Farke‘s side are now five points clear at the summit of the Championship after the Bramall Lane contest (24 February).
Their margin to third-placed Burnley is seven points and it would take an almighty collapse for them to miss out on automatic promotion.
With just 12 matches left to play, the promotion party may well be being prepared already by Elland Road bosses.
Leeds United have wrapped up promotion
Former Premier League striker Darren Bent believes that the Whites have wrapped up promotion after the impressive comeback result against the Blade
Speaking on talkSPORT (25 February, 16:09), he said: “Leeds’ never-die attitude, seven points over third now, I think that might be it.
“Unless they fall of a cliff, 12 games left, they’ve got a goal difference of plus 50.”
Daniel Farke may be planning for Premier League already
With the impressive advantage that the Elland Road outfit have secured at the top of the second tier, Farke may already be planning for life in the Premier League next campaign.
However, the German will need to ensure that his squad does not get carried away by the hype and stay focused as the Championship season grinds to a conclusion because they could still be caught despite their comfortable position.
The Whites will have to get their summer transfer window right as newly-promoted teams have struggled in the last two seasons with all three being relegated last season and the same seemingly set to happen again.
The gap between the divisions seems to be at an all-time high at the moment and there will be questions over whether Leeds can bridge it depending on what they do in the market if they are promoted.
If the Yorkshire outfit can identify targets and secure transfers now, it could slightly increase their survival chances due to the new additions having more time to bed in and learn Farke’s methods.
Given the impressive football that they have played this season and their lofty goal difference, they may be encouraged but the last time Farke was in the top flight with Norwich, his tactical approach did not pay off, his side lost 15 consecutive matches and he was sacked.
