Daniel Farke’s concern surfaces as Leeds United readied for Championship promotion race twist

Leeds United are the penultimate team to face Sheffield Wednesday this weekend after Burnley, Sunderland, and Sheffield United have all played.

Leeds United and their rivals return to Championship action this week after taking a break for FA Cup duty.

It was a hard although, ultimately, successful third round weekend for the Whites as they defeated Harrogate Town at Elland Road with Largie Ramazani scoring the only goal. Leeds took 59 minutes to break the deadlock against a determined League Two opponent, and another home tie awaits in the fourth round.

Daniel Farke’s squad will face Millwall or non-league Dagenham & Redbridge. They will compete live on television tonight for the privilege to travel to Elland Road for a match in early February.

Before then, Leeds will revert to their main business as they work to return to the big time.

Even though they are now at the top, Farke’s team could be out of the automatic promotion spots by the time they lace up their boots again. As things stand, they lead the Championship standings with 53 points from 26 games.

Burnley, Sheffield United (both 52 points) and Sunderland (50 points) are ranked second, third, and fourth, respectively.

With scattered matchups in midweek and this weekend, Leeds might slip to third position before a mouth-watering Yorkshire derby against Sheffield Wednesday at Elland Road on Sunday afternoon (12pm / noon). Indeed, their primary promotion competitors are already in action before that.

Burnley host Sunderland at Turf Moor on Friday night, while Sheffield United face Norwich City at home on Saturday lunchtime. Following those games, Burnley, Sunderland, and (grudgingly) Sheffield United may be praying for a Sheffield Wednesday win against the current leaders.

Leeds, on the other hand, will know exactly what result they need to get back to the top if their lead is taken away before their upcoming Championship match.
