Chris Wilder waited in the tunnel for Daniel Farke after Leeds United gained a crucial three points at Bramall Lane.
Leeds took a significant step closer to the Premier League with a 3-1 victory against Sheffield United on Monday night, boosting their Championship lead to five points.
The triumph was almost identical to the one against Sunderland, with the Whites down 1-0 before two headed goals in the final 20 minutes turned the game around.
Joel Piroe added his 15th goal of the season in extra time, ensuring Leeds took all three points in what could have been the title decider.
Wilder waits for Farke after Leeds vs Sheffield United.
With only two points separating the teams at the start of the game, Wilder will have been fully aware of the importance of the match, as well as the threat offered by Leeds.
That threat defined the game’s outcome, and Wilder may have been shockingly humble as a result.
According to Beren Cross (24 February), Farke stated, “Chris waited in the tunnel to congratulate every member of my staff.” Sheffield United could not have a better manager right now.”
Wilder could have easily returned to the locker room, but instead chose to show class and respect to the Leeds United players.
Farke’s team was clearly deserving of all three points, but Sheffield United should take confidence from the fact that they put Leeds through one of their toughest tests yet.
Leeds prepare for Premier League campaign
While promotion is not yet guaranteed, the win at Sheffield United substantially increased their chances, and at this point in the season, it is difficult to imagine anything else.
Leeds have been superb throughout the season, particularly since the turn of the year, and it is tough to argue against their title credentials.
A couple more wins will be enough to seal promotion, with the title race expected to come down to the final few games of the season.
However, with a five-point lead, triumph is now in the hands of the Whites, who will try to end the season with as many points as possible.
