Leeds United pulled up to second in the Championship after beating Bristol City 1-0 at Ashton Gate, thanks to a second-half strike by Wilfried Gnonto.
Daniel Farke is reluctant to get carried away, despite his Leeds United team moving into the Championship’s automatic promotion places for the first time this season. Wilfried Gnonto’s 48th-minute goal gave the Whites a 1-0 victory over Bristol City tonight.
For the first time in a calendar year, United has won five consecutive league matches. Farke, the Whites’ manager, stated, “This league is relentless, and it is about keeping going.”
“There can be no complacency when you’re having such a tremendous run as we are right now. We must respect each and every opponent. Football is never fair, and you must take your prize. We deserved to win today, but you must take it. If you want to be in a position to applaud next May, you must maintain consistency in this league. We’re doing it now, and it’s amazing.”
Gnonto, who was preferred over Jaidon Anthony on the right flank, scored after latching onto Patrick Bamford’s flick. The Italian international scored his first goal since August.
“A win is a win,” explained Farke. “Three points are always valuable in this league, especially in difficult away games on the road with a full schedule.
“I am thrilled because I gave a great performance today. “It’s a huge three points for us.”
After such a strong performance, United deserved the three points. However, Farke was disappointed with their performance and has demanded that his team improve in the final third.
“Yes, that’s about the only thing I can criticize,” he admitted. “It was almost a perfect away game. We had 10 to 15 minutes to get into the game, but after that, I liked our pressure. I enjoyed our counter-pressing. I appreciated our possession and transitional phases. We got over them quickly and produced numerous opportunities, but scoring goals is essential, especially on the road.
“One thing is certain: if we want to rejoice at the end of the season, we must be more effective and accountable when we provide so many opportunities. Sometimes in this competition, you have to win a game with only one or two chances. I believe we created numerous opportunities in a difficult away game, but this is an area where we must improve.
