Liverpool player Curtis Jones has taken to social media following his dismissal against Everton. It occurred in the midst of heated circumstances near the end of the competition.
Curtis Jones has broken his silence after collecting a red card in the final minutes of the Merseyside Derby. The match ended 2-2 after a disputed late equalizer.
Jones, who had already been booked, was sent off after objecting to Abdoulaye Doucoure’s celebration in front of the Liverpool fans. The Everton midfielder, who had already got a yellow card, was also ejected.
Unfortunately, this means Jones will miss the weekend’s Premier League match against Wolves. However, because it was a second yellow card rather than a straight red, the suspension will be only one game.
Arne Slot has a less straightforward picture. After the final whistle, Michael Oliver showed the Liverpool manager a straight red card; he could miss more than one match, but he may still be in the dugout for the Wolves game while the league conducts its investigation.
The Premier League initially confirmed on its website that Slot would miss the next two matches. However, it has since deleted that statement, which was made in error.
Jones has now published a simple remark, “Always together,” along with two photographs from the game. They show Liverpool’s jubilation following their second goal, as well as the midfielder skipping past Everton’s Jesper Lindstrom.
It’s an appropriate caption. Getting sent off against Everton is frequently regarded with dismay and consternation, indicating that a player has succumbed to the pressure of the moment, but Jones’ actions will have endeared him to the Liverpool faithful.
He demonstrated unity among the team and the spectators by standing up to Doucoure. It was a welcome display of emotion, rather than just impulsive hot-headedness.
Doucoure, after all, was the one who started the incident. After a lengthy VAR review, which cleared an offside (based on the allowed margin for error) and brushed past a foul on Ibrahima Konate, the Frenchman celebrated in front of the travelling fans; it would have been disappointing if a Liverpool player had not responded.
Having said that, Slot will not welcome the reduction in his options as a brutal run of five matches in 15 days ploughs mercilessly onward. The trio of Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai may well now have to be asked to go again versus Wolves.
The pressure will be on in that game to get back to winning ways, after missing the chance to move nine points clear of Arsenal. However, with a seven-point lead intact as Liverpool enters the last 14 games of the campaign, Slot will see when the dust settles that his side remains in a very strong position.
