Liverpool won the game with goals from Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis MacAllister, following their triumph against Manchester City at the weekend. Arsenal’s goalless draw with Nottingham Forest on Wednesday evening means the Reds now have a 13-point lead at the top.
Liverpool drew one step closer to the Premier League title with a win over Newcastle United.
Curtis Jones delivered a message to Anthony Gordon following Liverpool’s Premier League victory over Newcastle United. The Reds won 2-0 at Anfield on Wednesday night, extending their advantage at the top of the standings.
Arne Slot left Jones on the bench in the win over Newcastle before bringing him on as a substitute in the second half. After the final whistle, Jones and Gordon were seen conversing with their arms over each other’s shoulders.
It’s unknown what the two discussed, but Jones has now posted a statement on social media addressing the conversation with Gordon. The Liverpool midfielder shared a photo on his Instagram story of himself and Gordon talking after the full-time whistle.
Jones captioned the photo with “My brother,” followed by a heart symbol, which Gordon reposted on his own Instagram story. Off the pitch, the two are close friends who formerly shared a locker room with the England Under-21s.
Gordon was extensively linked with a move to Liverpool last summer, potentially becoming one of the club’s first acquisitions under Slot. A deal worth over £75 million to bring the former Everton player to Anfield was said to be on the table before falling through, with the Magpies reportedly asking for Jarell Quansah to be included in the deal as a reason for the transfer not occurring.
