Tyler Adams has now issued his opinion on Leeds United and its fans, 12 months after departing Elland Road following the club’s relegation from the Premier League.
The USA captain was one of Jesse Marsch’s key signings in the summer of 2022, and he was one of several players Marsch reunited with at Elland Road, including Brenden Aaronson, Max Wober, and others.
While Aaronson, Rasmus Kristensen, and Weston McKennie struggled at Elland Road, Adams excelled. However, the midfielder sustained an injury shortly after Marsch’s dismissal in February 2023.
It caused the former Leipzig star to miss the rest of the season, which contributed significantly to Leeds’ ultimate relegation to the Championship, where Daniel Farke presently resides with his Leeds side.
Adams jumped ship rather than try to help Leeds return to the top flight, departing at the first opportunity to join Bournemouth, and has spent the majority of the 2023-24 season injured, playing only four games.
Adams delivers his assessment on Leeds and the club’s supporters.
Angus Kinnear is well-known for refusing to send Adams a Christmas card following his departure, despite the midfielder’s evident desire to leave Leeds and return to the Premier League as soon as possible.
While his departure was financially necessary, with Bournemouth paying £23 million for the privilege, his desire to leave Leeds following relegation was no different from the eight individuals who used Victor Orta’s loan clause.
Adams told The Mail this week that joining Leeds was a no-brainer for him. What’s the truth? I really didn’t realize what I was getting myself into. When things are going well, it’s incredible – the finest thing ever.
“When things aren’t going well, it’s a team and a city built on hard work, blue-collar.” I still have a strong connection with those fans. I don’t care if they say they hate me or not.
Adams’ feelings at Elland Road are mutual, as are his claims.
Fans share Kinnear’s opinion of Adams and the other Leeds players who departed the club after contributing to the club’s relegation; there is little fondness for them.
Leeds have subsequently signed Ilia Gruev and Ethan Ampadu, and many believe that the stand-in Leeds captain, as well as Bulgarian star Gruev, are better than Adams, even if just in the Championship.
