Contact made: Nottingham Forest plot audacious move for £29k per week forward

Nottingham Forest has made an ambitious bid to acquire a new striker this summer as Nuno Espírito Santo aims to improve his ranks ahead of the Premier League season.

    Nottingham Forest needs goals.

Forest, who secured Premier League survival on the penultimate day of last season, have been cautious in their expenditure this summer compared to previous seasons. The club has spent about £50 million on Elliot Anderson and Nikola Milenkovic, although they have been relatively economical in other areas.

    Nottingham Forest’s new signings
    Player Fee
    Elliot Anderson £35m
    Nikola Milenkovic £12m
    Jota Silva £6m
    Marko Stamenic £4.6m
    Carlos Miguel £3.3m
    Eric da Silva Moreira £1m

It means they have yet to address their goal-scoring problems, with only Burnley, Everton, and Sheffield United scoring fewer than the City Ground side previous season, aided by an incredible run of form from Chris Wood.

Taiwo Awoniyi is highly regarded throughout the top tier, although he has yet to string together a run of games for the Reds in his two seasons with the club. The Nigerian made only 12 Premier League starts in 2023/24, down from 17 in his rookie season.

As a result, a striker is likely to be on their wishlist between now and the summer transfer window, which closes on August 30th, two weeks into the new season.

Nottingham Forest makes contact on ambitious move.

Forest have reportedly made touch over an audacious bid for Mexican attacker Santiago Gimenez. Last season, the 23-year-old forward stunned Eredivisie fans by scoring 23 goals in 30 appearances, a performance that prompted speculation of a move to the Premier League from Tottenham and Arsenal.

“Gimenez truly is fantastic,” Feyenoord icon Mario Been said following a particularly outstanding performance. “He hadn’t even touched the ball before his first goal, but that was a fantastic finish.”

However, Arsenal’s interest in the £29k per week ace has cooled, while Tottenham are negotiating a deal to sign Dominic Solanke, which would put them out of the competition for the Feyenoord player.

This has allowed other clubs to seek a deal, and journalist Martijn Krabbendam believes Nottingham Forest has made an offer to sign the Mexico forward.

“There is some interest in Giménez; Nottingham Forest has called,” he stated, adding that Gimenez may be searching for a larger club if he leaves Feyenoord this summer.

“I can’t think Giménez would want it, or the cost would be astronomical. There is rumor that he will and can still travel. Giménez must be sold at some point.”

A move for Gimenez, who transfermarkt values at £34 million, would undoubtedly be a statement of purpose from Forest, who have already demonstrated in Sangare that they are willing to spend big on talent from the Dutch top tier if they believe it is a good deal.
