Liverpool are getting closer to finalizing their squad for the first half of the season as the transfer deadline approaches.
The Reds appeared to be in the market one last time coming into Friday, with defensive midfielder and centre-back positions still open.
However, with time running out, it appears unlikely that Liverpool will make any new signings.
However, this may not be true for players exiting Anfield. Nottingham Forest are reportedly interested in signing Caoimhin Kelleher, which is something to keep an eye on.
Along with Kelleher’s likely exit, a number of Liverpool players could be loaned away. One such agreement has already been announced, with plenty of time to spare.
Liverpool players react to the Calum Scanlon loan.
This summer, Liverpool’s loan market appeared to be a little more sluggish than normal. However, it is still possible that a few issues are resolved by 11 p.m. on Friday.
Ben Doak allegedly has seven loan offers, and it would be surprising if the winger did not go by the end of deadline day.
Nat Phillips will almost certainly find a club, while Kaide Gordon has also been connected with a temporary exit.
Calum Scanlon, a left-back in the academy, no longer needs to worry about where he will play this season.
Scanlon joined Championship side Millwall on Thursday, in what appears to be a good move for him. Taking to Instagram, the 19-year-old expressed his excitement at joining.
Liverpool players left remarks, with Gordon sending flame emojis and Cody Gakpo wishing Scanlon ‘good luck.’
Tyler Morton responded with ‘all the best mate,’ while former Liverpool footballer Bobby Clark commented, ‘Let’s go brother, your [sic] time.’
Does Calum Scanlon have a future with Liverpool?
Scanlon, like so many Liverpool teenagers right now, was brought in from elsewhere. The 15-year-old defender joined the club from Birmingham in 2020.
Liverpool would not have recruited Scanlon if they did not believe he could break into the first team, and he demonstrated his potential with two outings last season.
As Andy Robertson’s career comes to an end, the Reds may have a vacancy at left-back in the coming year or two.
Liverpool has many of potential academy successors, including Luke Chambers and Owen Beck.
Chambers is on loan in League One this season, while Beck has joined Scanlon in the Championship. It will be interesting to watch who of the three makes the strongest claim to be next in line.
Good Luck, Calum!
