Rangers were lucky to not concede a penalty following a “clumsy” moment in the 1-1 draw against Dundee, Tam McManus has suggested.
The Gers went behind to a sixth-minute score from Oluwaseun Adewuni in the game at Dens Park on 9 January, until Vaclav Cerny leveled.
Despite the goal, there was a review of an earlier incident in which Clinton Nsiala looked to step on Simon Murray prior to the counter-attack that resulted in the equaliser.
After carefully reviewing the clip, McManus stated on X: “See it clearer here, certainly trods/stands on Simon Murray’s foot. Clumsy.”
Rangers were fortunate not to concede a penalty.
The Gers were fortunate not to give a penalty that would have put them two goals down rather than allowing them to get the equaliser.
Nsiala, who was making his Light Blues league debut, did not appear confident at first and can thank his lucky stars before settling into the game, unlike the older players surrounding him.
It would have been a soft decision, but they were granted, fortunately for the under-pressure Philippe Clement, but Calum Scott did not think it was enough for a spot kick.
The Ibrox side hoped to reduce Celtic’s lead at the top of the table to 13 points rather than 16, but were unable to do so after another draw.
That was the second draw in two Scottish Premiership games, following the 3-3 draw against Hibernian on January 5, and it did little to relieve the Belgian manager’s burden.
If results do not improve soon, Clement will lose his job and the Gers will be back at square one.
