Cyriel Dessers is one of the strikers being lined up by Cagliari as speculation over his future at Rangers persists, according to Corriere dello Sport.
According to the Italian newspaper’s print version (25 January, page 21), Dessers is among a “whirlwind” of names linked with a move to the Serie A club.
Cagliari’s long list includes Gers’ number nine and David Okereke, but they will have to sell first.
Cagliari’s interest in Dessers, among others, has sparked widespread speculation among their fans ahead of the February 3 deadline.
Cyriel Dessers’ switch to Rangers could still be on the cards.
Dessers’ long-term future at Ibrox remains uncertain, despite his goal against Manchester United in Thursday’s Europa League defeat, as the 30-year-old is presently third in the pecking order.
Sending the Old Trafford away end into raptures for only four minutes was a timely reminder of the impact that an in-form Dessers can have in light blue, but those moments have been rare.
With the Nigerian’s build-up play lacking at times and his finishing inconsistent rather than prolific, many Gers fans have concluded that Dessers is not the long-term solution.
That could well be the case, given the emergence of 22-year-old Hamza Igamane this season, as well as the much younger Danilo, among Philippe Clement’s available choices.
If Cagliari pursues a move that fits the Bears’ valuation, they will be urged to accept it, and with so many issues to resolve in this window, bringing in a reasonable money will be critical.
