Leeds United have begun talks with Fortuna Dusseldorf about signing midfielder Ao Tanaka, according to Sky Sports News.
The network announced in its live online transfer centre (27 August, 6:15 p.m.) that the Whites are interested in signing the 25-year-old midfielder.
Daniel Farke’s team has already had bids rejected for FC Koln midfielder Dean Ljubicic and Sheffield United’s Gus Hamer during the current transfer window.
Leeds United set to sign Fortuna Dusseldorf midfielder Ao Tanaka?
This would be a valuable addition to Farke’s roster. As a result, if the Whites can complete a deal before the transfer market closes on Friday (30 August), Farke and Elland Road supporters will undoubtedly be happy.
It is apparent that the Leeds manager believes his club requires a new midfielder. Archie Gray and Glen Kamara both left the Whites this summer, and Georginio Rutter also left Elland Road in the last week.
This includes three key midfielders from Leeds’ promotion-chasing squad last season. As a result, bringing in a new face in that part of the field might be prudent.
Tanaka is an experienced footballer who has played for Japan at the senior level and scored eight goals. As a result, that degree of experience could prove useful for Leeds as they attempt to return to the Premier League.
It remains to be seen whether a settlement can be reached. However, with talks already started, Elland Road supporters are optimistic that a trade will be completed before Friday.
