The latest Nottingham Forest news as the Reds savor the comfort of their 2-0 victory over West Ham United and their under-fire manager David Moyes.
Clinton Morrison believes David Moyes cannot hide behind the fact that West Ham had Kalvin Phillips sent off since Nottingham Forest were the superior team throughout their Premier League match at the City Ground.
A goal in either half from Taiwo Awoniyi and Callum Hudson-Odoi handed Nuno Espirito Santo’s side a much-needed win, their first in the Premier League this season, and improved their position at the bottom of the table.
Morrison, on the other hand, believes Forest, despite being eight points behind West Ham, deserved to win against a side that was crushed 6-0 by Arsenal the previous time out. Moyes believed Phillips’ second yellow card in the 70th minute was a turning point; Morrison disagreed.
“It was a big win for them,” the ex-striker told Sky Sports. “They fully deserved it as well; regardless of whether West Ham went down to 10 men, they were the superior team; Forest seemed the most likely, and they had a cutting edge.
“[Morgan] Gibbs-White was very good in the ten, [Taiwo] Awoniyi was causing [Kurt] Zouma and [Nayef] Aguerd a lot of problems, and [Callum] Hudson-Odoi and [Anthony] Elanga had the pace, and Hudson-Odoi eventually scored his second goal.”
“But no, they deserved it and it was a great atmosphere and I said if Forest are going to survive in the Premier League, their home form is crucial and the fans played a big part so they thoroughly deserved the three points.”
When asked if he witnessed a reaction from the West Ham players following their humiliation against Arsenal, he was unambiguous in his condemnation. “I didn’t see a reaction, and while he stated the buildup from the back was good, it was slow, and all three midfielders are quite similar.
“They are good footballers, but they are quite similar; no one is running beyond [Michael] Antonio in the final third, and they rely too heavily on Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus. They lack [Lucas] Paqueta, that creative spark, and that’s how they suffered; they didn’t deserve anything.”
