Chris Sutton stated the club will be apprehensive about the £8 million striker departing, and Leeds are now interested

Leeds United are apparently interested in a Championship attacker ahead of the summer, following Chris Sutton’s comments that the club will be concerned about losing the forward.

Leeds are expected to look for a new striker in the summer, with Patrick Bamford’s injury difficulties still causing problems for both the club and the player, and Joel Piroe’s form at Leeds has been quite up and down recently.

Piroe may have given his best performance in a Leeds shirt on Thursday night, but it came after a difficult second half of the season in which the Dutchman lost momentum after Bamford replaced him.

Mateo Joseph is still a future prospect, but he is closing in on a spot on the team. Leeds may believe they need more options up forward, and USA player Josh Sargent has surfaced as a potential target for the Whites.

Daniel Farke signed Sargent for £8 million in the summer of 2021, and he has had his greatest season at Carrow Road, netting 16 goals in 26 Championship matches.

Interest in Sargent will come as no surprise to Norwich icon Sutton, who has stated that the Canaries are concerned about losing the striker ahead of the summer after failing to secure promotion.

Sutton believes Norwich is concerned about Josh Sargent amid Leeds links.

Sargent is a top Championship player, and while he failed in the Premier League at first, he has shown signs of improvement in recent seasons and might be much better the second time around.

According to reports, not only are Leeds interested in Farke’s promotion, but Premier League clubs Brighton, Brentford, and Fulham also want to recruit the Norwich star. It’s unclear how much Norwich wants.

Sutton wrote about Sargent in his Pink’Un column in February: “Scoring goals is about confidence, and he is dripping it right now. Given how he began his career at Norwich, he appears to be a completely different player.

“After a difficult season in the Premier League, he was probably wondering if he had a future with the club.” The position has evolved, and Norwich will be concerned about keeping him in the summer.

What Daniel Farke has said about Sargent in the past at Norwich

Daniel Farke had a brief tenure with the “remarkable” Sargent at Norwich after signing him in 2021. However, Farke was fired before Christmas due to his struggles in the Premier League.

But Farke was clearly impressed by Sargent’s work rate in his first season in the Premier League. Three years ago, Farke said the following about the new Leeds target.

Following a match against Brighton, Farke lauded his “excellent” striker: “excellent performance. His workload was incredible, both with and against the ball. “He managed to keep the ball in the pocket.”
