Nottingham Forest started their season with a draw against Bournemouth.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side got off to a great start at the City Ground after facing the worst conceivable start to the season.
Forest lost Danilo to what could be a season-ending injury in the first few minutes; everyone will wish him well.
Despite the extended delay as medics treated to the midfielder, Forest scored after 23 minutes when Chris Wood tapped home from inside the box.
However, the second half had a lot to be desired, with the Reds surrendering their lead before the visitors scored a late equaliser.
What Kris Boyd observed about Nottingham Forest that pleased him
It may only have been one game, but the Reds showed some promising indications, with a number of commentators already anticipating relegation.
The second half will undoubtedly raise problems for Forest, but the opening 45 minutes brought some positives.
Sky Sports analyst Boyd was particularly impressed by one aspect of the Reds’ performance.
Speaking on Soccer Saturday, Boyd acknowledged he was quite impressed with Forest’s play before to the late equaliser.
“I like Forest’s look going forward; perhaps there is some defensive work to be done. “They’re causing all kinds of problems with little one-twos.”
It’s simply a shame the Reds couldn’t sustain this into the second half, as their domination waned in the final 45 minutes.
Nottingham Forest have lessons to learn after the late equaliser.
Forest may have left a lasting impression if they had managed to secure all three points against the Cherries.
But it was not to be, and the Reds now have a week to regroup on the training pitch and figure out what went wrong.
Perhaps it was simply a matter of Forest needing to regain full match fitness in the early parts of the season, but they clearly squandered two points.
Evangelos Marinakis still has time to add to his squad in the transfer market, and Forest has been connected with a bid for Arsenal attacker Eddie Nketiah.
More goals are certainly required, especially with the opportunity closing at the end of the month.
