Liverpool will take on Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley for the first trophy of the 2024-25 season.

Liverpool and Newcastle will go head-to-head in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday as the two sides eye up the first major trophy of the season. Arne Slot’s team go into the match as huge favourites after enjoying a fine season under the Dutchman.

Liverpool overcame a 1-0 first-leg deficit against Tottenham in the semi-finals to reach the showpiece match as the Reds beat Spurs 4-0 at Anfield last month. Newcastle, however, overcame Arsenal 2-0 home and away in their last-four duel. And Express Sport looks at the prize money on offer at Wembley.

When is the Carabao Cup Final?

This season’s Carabao Cup final will take place on Sunday, March 16. The match will get underway at 4.30pm GMT.

How much money will the 2024/25 Carabao Cup champions win?

The winners of Sunday’s match will be handed a prize of £100,000. That is the same amount as Liverpool won last season when they got the better of Chelsea in the final.

How much money will the 2024/25 Carabao Cup runners-up win?

The losing team on Sunday will receive £50,000 for their endeavours on the pitch, with the prize money for the runners-up also remaining the same as last season.

How does the Carabao Cup prize money compare to the FA Cup?

The prize money for the Carabao Cup winners is a quarter of what the FA Cup champions receive, which is a stunning £2 million.

Do Carabao Cup winners qualify for Europe?

If the Carabao Cup winners have not yet qualified for Europe, they will be assigned to the UEFA Conference League.

While that prize would be irrelevant to Liverpool, who are 15 points clear at the top of the Premier League table and have thus virtually guaranteed their place in the Champions League, it could benefit Newcastle, who are currently ninth in the table.
