Farke is ruthless.
As the Championship’s thrilling race for automatic promotion heats up, Leeds United have already begun to turn their eyes to the summer transfer window, with a brutal decision apparently on the way.
Leeds Transfer News
Once promotion is determined, Leeds’ transfer plans will become much clearer. With the potential of Premier League football, Daniel Farke might bring in a lot of new faces to put his team in the best possible position to survive and thrive in the top tier. If they fail to rise, the Whites may face an extremely difficult summer.
Already, Crysencio Summerville has been linked with a transfer away following a good campaign, and promotion failure would make it difficult for Elland Road to retain such stars.
As things stand, the Yorkshire club has the opportunity to climb into second place in the Championship on Monday when they face Middlesbrough, but they will also face pressure from Ipswich Town, who will have a game in hand with only a few weeks remaining in the season. Things are about to come down to the wire, but that hasn’t prevented Farke from making a brutal decision.
According to Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider, Jack Harrison is poised to be sold permanently this summer following his loan spell at Everton this season, with Farke preferring to stick with his current wingers rather than resort to the former Manchester City player.
It remains to be seen how much Elland Road will seek for Harrison this summer, and whether Everton or another club will lead the fight for his signature, but Leeds will at least remove his rumored £40k per week salary from their payroll.
Harrison’s uneven loan spell at Everton
While Harrison was once a viable Premier League option for Leeds, scoring five goals and assisting seven more last season, he has failed to establish consistency at Everton, with injuries playing a role.
Harrison has only been involved in six Premier League goals throughout his time at Goodison Park, scoring three and assisting three in a team still fighting to avoid relegation. Despite being only 27 years old, the winger has the potential to excel in Merseyside or elsewhere this summer and prove Leeds wrong.
Sean Dyche may be among those hoping to see Everton take advantage of Leeds’ transfer decision, having been full of praise for Harrison from the start this season, saying via Liverpool Echo: “I must say I think Jack Harrison has done fantastically well, he has only just had that game the other night with the development side and he said he felt fine, he said he was ready, and I believed him.”
“He seemed prepared, and he was training freely. But to come in and play at this level with almost no return to real football is very, very satisfying for both me as a manager and him as a player.”
