Saturday wasn’t simply a beautiful day for Nottingham Forest, but Manchester United clearly reveled in their famous 1-0 triumph at Anfield as well.
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes contacted former teammate Anthony Elanga following Nottingham Forest’s 1-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield, praising the winger’s match-winning assist.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s team left Anfield with three points, which is a rare accomplishment. At least for them, it was a 55-year-long dream come true, as they won on this field for the first time since 1969.
This came down to a wonderful strike from Callum Hudson-Odoi, who cut behind Conor Bradley in the 72nd minute and curled in using Ibrahima Konate as a shield, leaving Alisson Becker unsighted. Elanga’s cross-field pass to his teammate was crucial to the move.
Following his team’s success on the south coast in Southampton, Portugal international Fernandes commented on the Swede’s Instagram post: “That assist, man.”
One part of Fernandes was clearly supporting for his old teammate of two years, while the other was possibly reveling in watching Man United’s fiercest opponents with their tails between their legs at home. Not barely two weeks ago, his team was thrashed by Arne Slot’s Liverpool at Old Trafford before the international break.
On Saturday, in addition to complimenting the travelling fans, Elanga’s ties to his former club shined through when he joked about Liverpool’s iconic anthem with the caption: “Didn’t Walk Alone today, I had the mandem with me. The away fans provided excellent support, as usual!”
