“Brilliant”: Alan Hutton is blown away by Rangers against Queen’s Park footage live on broadcast

Alan Hutton was astounded by a “brilliant” moment in the Scottish Cup match between Rangers and Queen’s Park on Sunday, according to newly released footage.

Rangers were eliminated from the Scottish Cup after losing 1-0 to Championship club Queen’s Park at Ibrox on February 9.

Substitute Sebastian Drozd scored in the 69th minute to give the visitors an improbable victory, while Philippe Clement suffered another humiliating setback as Light Blues boss.

The Glasgow giants’ performance in the game has come under intense scrutiny after they were defeated by a mid-table club in the second tier.

Alan Hutton furious about Rangers’ approach

Hutton was enraged by Clement’s side’s lack of urgency as they faced Queen’s Park, whom they were expected to overcome despite making five changes to their starting lineup.

The former Rangers defender chastised the Ibrox outfit for being passive throughout the encounter, while praising Queen’s Park.

He also watched video of Drozd’s goal, calling his move to go past Jefte “brilliant” and praising him as a difference-maker off the bench.

“Rangers, honestly, no urgency,” Hutton stated on Premier Sports’ Scottish Football Social Club (10 February).

It wasn’t until Rangers were behind 1-0 that they went and retrieved the ball, placed it down, and there was some force in their pass, and they were moving, rushing off the ball.

“But it’s too late. Yes, they had opportunities and a penalty, but it was all due to how Queens Park played.

“They simply irritated the Rangers, and it was so passive, just side by side at the back, with no real penetration or runners.

“I mean, that’s a tremendous turn; he just changes it there, opens up his body, and finishes strong.

“He came on as a sub and I thought he made a real difference.”

Is Philippe Clement gonna be fired?

Rangers missed out on winning the Scottish League Cup after losing to Celtic on penalties in December.

With Sunday’s unexpected defeat to Queen’s Park, the Light Blues have now failed in both domestic cup competitions this season.

Celtic now lead the Scottish Premiership by 13 points, therefore Clement’s chances of winning anything in Scotland this season are over.

The UEFA Europa League is his last chance of collecting silverware this season, but it remains a daunting challenge.

As a result, it appears like the Rangers will go the entire 2024-25 season without winning a trophy.

As a result, the board must decide whether Clement will continue to serve as their manager.

Sunday’s outcome will have been the final nail in the coffin for the Belgian tactician in the eyes of many fans, and it remains to be seen whether Patrick Stewart and his team view the same way behind the scenes.

It’s hard to imagine the 50-year-old staying in charge of the Scottish heavyweights beyond this season.
