Brian Deane predicts who will secure automatic promotion among Leeds United, Sheffield United, and Burnley

Leeds United fans are pleased with the Championship table right now, thanks to comeback victories over Sunderland and Sheffield United, with Daniel Farke’s side leading by five points.

Leeds’ 3-1 victory over Sheffield on Monday moved them five points clear of Sheffield United in second place and seven points ahead of Burnley in third. The Whites’ goal differential of 50 acts as a point.

With 12 games to go and 36 points to play for, Sheffield United would have to win two more games than Leeds and Burnley, three. But Leeds have only lost three Championship games all season, in 34 matches.

Ally McCoist believes Leeds will be promoted, whereas Darren Bent believes it would be a “fall off a cliff” for Leeds to fail in their promotion bid. Brian Deane, a Leeds icon, has now spoken out on the promotion race.

If Leeds are not already home and dry, the position of their 12 remaining opponents should give them even more confidence. Nine of the 12 teams are in the bottom half, with West Brom the highest they face.

Indeed, Leeds host West Brom on Saturday, and while Alex Mowatt has issued a warning to the Whites, Deane believes they will be promoted. He gave FLW his forecast for the top two.

“I believe Leeds is almost a given now. What they did in the games against Sheffield United and Sunderland last week broke the back. “They just need to match other teams now,” Deane told FLW.

“Sheffield United are not a sure thing, but they have enough to win enough games to get promoted right now. Their form has been spotty. It will be a close match between Burnley and Sheffield United, but I believe United will win.”

Predicting Leeds’ Next Four Games Before the International Break

So Leeds will face West Brom next, with first position vs. fifth place. Tony Mowbray has been the Baggies’ manager for seven games, winning three, losing three, and drawing the other.

Then it’s off to Portsmouth, Millwall at Elland Road, and QPR in London. Below, LeedsUnited.News forecasts the following four Championship games before the March international break in the coming weeks.

A win over West Brom on Saturday might extend Leeds’ lead at the top of the Championship table, with Sheffield United and Burnley away to QPR and Cardiff City, respectively.
