Brenden Aaronson confesses he had the choice of leaving Leeds United this summer, but he decided to give the club another chance.
The United States international spent last season on loan in the Bundesliga with Union Berlin after the Whites were relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2022/23 season.
It was announced earlier in the window that Aaronson, 23, would remain a member of Daniel Farke’s side this season, but he admitted there were possibilities of leaving.
Speaking to LeedsLive (25 July), the attacking midfielder stated, “I want to be a part of this club.” I had options, of course, but after six or seven months, I knew I wanted to return and play for this club and be a part of the team.”
Brenden Aaronson is eager to take another shot at Leeds United.
Aaronson is preparing for another stay at Leeds, and his comeback tale is worth following. Following the Whites’ relegation, Aaronson’s move to Union Berlin was not well received by fans, as numerous players took advantage of contract options.
From Aaronson’s perspective, it undoubtedly made sense because the Champions League was calling and Leeds were in transition. Leeds did not have a coach or sporting director at the moment, so Aaronson took advantage of the opportunity to leave, although briefly.
Since rejoining Leeds, he has been making all the right sounds, but the only actions that Whites fans care about are those on the pitch, and he will need to work hard to re-establish himself with the Elland Road crowd.
Conversations with Farke were critical to Aaronson’s decision to return. Even before these discussions, he found himself watching Leeds games and feeling drawn back to Elland Road [LeedsLive, July 25].
His time in Berlin was not only about escape, but also about progress. He worked on his strength and decision-making skills, and he’s now ready to bring his improved game back to Yorkshire.
