Despite speculations that Real Madrid may pursue a transfer for defender Trent Alexander-Arnold, Liverpool seem unconcerned, according to writer Ben Jacobs of GIVEMESPORT.
Following the departure of long-serving manager Jurgen Klopp, the Merseyside club is entering a watershed moment. Former Feyenoord manager Arne Slot has taken over as head coach, and preparations for the next season are well started.
The Reds have yet to bolster their senior team, with Slot eager to analyze the present players at his disposal, but the contract renewals of Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, and Mohamed Salah are crucial. All three are due to enter the final year of their current contracts and will need their futures resolved in the coming weeks.
Liverpool ‘not planning’ for the Alexander-Arnold exit.
He has been linked to Real Madrid.
Liverpool is preparing for the new season with Alexander-Arnold in their ranks, despite Real Madrid’s interest, according to Jacobs. The defender is presently on leave following England’s Euro 2024 final defeat to Spain on Sunday and is expected to rejoin to pre-season training in early August.
According to the journalist, Slot is anticipated to speak with the 25-year-old about his role in the team and leadership group. Contrary to speculations that Real Madrid is anxious to sign the defender, the Champions League winners are not currently seeking a deal.
Jacobs told GIVEMESPORT,
“Trent Alexander-Arnold will meet with Arne Slot. The Liverpool boss has already determined where he will play and wants to make him a member of the players’ leadership squad, which will aid in any future contract negotiations.
“Slot is anticipated to reveal more information about Trent’s involvement after they meet face-to-face, but he has stayed tight-lipped for now. Liverpool are unconcerned despite Real Madrid’s interest. They are not contemplating an Alexander-Arnold leave, and Real are not actively pursuing a transfer at this time.”
Alexander-Arnold has already made his feelings clear.
It is not the first time he has been linked with a move elsewhere.
Alexander-Arnold has often been linked with Real Madrid, with various reports emerging throughout his great Liverpool career. However, considering the nature of his contract position, and the fact that he is about to approach the final year of his contract, fans are understandably anxious about these new links.
Alexander-Arnold is an academy graduate and boyhood Red, and he has previously indicated a desire to captain the team one day. The right back was chosen vice-captain behind Van Dijk a year ago, so a move to La Liga would come as a huge surprise given his past declarations about wanting to finish his career at Anfield.
Alexander Arnold, speaking to The Times in 2018, said:
“There is no other place I would rather be than Liverpool. Liverpool is somewhere I’d like to stay for the rest of my career. It’s exactly what I’ve always wanted. Liverpool is special. It is all up to the supporters. Whether we win or lose, we will always have their affection.
“I want to be captain one day. That is definitely a dream of mine. I hope that with devotion, the appropriate guidance, and the hard work that still has to be done, one day I will be able to realize my ambition of becoming captain, which my family and I will be extremely proud of.”
