BBC Sport pundit drops Nottingham Forest versus Manchester United prediction because one player is ‘major miss’ for FA Cup encounter

Chris Sutton, a BBC Sport commentator, has released his score prediction for Manchester United’s upcoming FA Cup match against Nottingham Forest at City Ground.

Manchester United defeated Wigan 2-0 in the third round of the FA Cup at the DW Stadium last month before defeating Newport County 4-2 in the fourth round.

Erik ten Hag’s side came close to winning the FA Cup last season, but lost 2-1 to crosstown rivals Manchester City in the final at Wembley in 2023.

United were undefeated in 2024 until Saturday’s 2-1 setback to Fulham at Old Trafford, with Erik ten Hag chastised for his team’s performance.

Prior to the Premier League encounter against Fulham, United had gone undefeated in their previous seven matches across all competitions since the beginning of January.

Ten Hag’s goal for United this season is to finish in the top four of the Premier League, and the Dutchman also wants his team to proceed in the FA Cup.

Last December, the Red Devils met Nottingham Forest, and Nuno’s side overcame United 2-1 at City Ground.

Sutton discusses Manchester United and Hojlund’s injuries

Chris Sutton, a BBC Sport analyst, claimed Manchester United failed to impress against Fulham without injured striker Rasmus Hojlund.

Rasmus Hojlund has been in top form for United in recent weeks, but the 21-year-old Danish striker may miss a few of games due to injury.

Sutton claimed that Marcus Rashford provided little in Hojlund’s absence against Fulham, with the United star “barely” getting a kick of the ball at Old Trafford.

In his BBC Sport column, he stated: “When it comes to predictions, Manchester United are my new Chelsea – I get all of their results wrong.”

“I’m not sure what to expect from Erik ten Hag’s side. Even when they were winning, they were not in control of the games.

“I backed United to win at the weekend, too, but the saddest part about their home loss was that Fulham earned all three points.

“Nottingham Forest beat United at the City Ground at the end of December, and they still have a goal or two in them, despite poor league record since then.

“United, in contrast, provided little against Fulham without the injured Rasmus Hojlund to lead their line. Marcus Rashford was on my Fantasy team, but he barely had a kick.

Sutton’s predictions for Forest versus Manchester United

Sutton predicts Nottingham Forest and United’s fifth-round FA Cup encounter at City Ground will end with a spot shootout.

The 50-year-old TNT Sports journalist and commentator predicted a 1-1 draw before United defeated Forest on penalties to win the FA Cup.

“United are good on the counter, but they need someone to finish their chances, and Hojlund is such a big miss,” Sutton went on to say.

“This tie appears to be very close, and it might go the distance, but I believe United will find a way to win it.

“I don’t know why, because there is more pointing towards it going the other way – I guess this is probably why I get so many United scores wrong.”
