Rangers have been labeled “atrocious” following a recent public financial expose at Ibrox.
The Gers have arguably not been the best of teams off the pitch this season, having been without a chairman and CEO for a lengthy period of time.
Patrick Stewart and Fraser Thornton only began their new roles at the Glasgow-based company in December.
The Light Blues’ uncertainty off the pitch appears to have influenced their on-field results, as they now appear to be a much better team, yet certain mismanagement has resulted in Rangers fan protests against the boardroom in recent weeks.
Gary Keown blasts Rangers after Philippe Clement’s admission
Gary Keown lambasted the Bears after Philippe Clement revealed they didn’t have the money to sign Lyall Cameron during the winter transfer window.
The Scottish Mail on Sunday columnist is enraged, as the Gers only had the option of signing the Dundee midfielder on a pre-contract basis.
While the Belgian manager confesses he wanted the 22-year-old immediately, the Light Blues were unable to do so owing to financial constraints.
Keown stated in the print edition of the Scottish Mail on Sunday (9 February, page 92): “Just look at Rangers, who, according to manager Clement, no longer have enough money to buy Cameron out of Dundee before his contract expires.
“That’s what years and years of having to pony up to compensate for atrocious recruitment, endless losses, and useless management of assets get you.”
Nils Koppen tries to turn the tide at Ibrox.
While the Gers’ recruitment strategy has been mediocre in recent years, Nils Koppen appears to be adopting adjustments.
The Belgian manager joined the Glasgow club in January 2024 and has increased in prominence after being named technical director earlier this season.
Koppen has also made judgments about the Bears’ youth structure, and supporters have seen numerous prospects depart on loan or play more minutes for the main squad in the previous month.
Clement has given Bailey Rice and Findlay Curtis regular opportunity in recent outings.
The Ibrox faithful will also be happy to see Clinton Nsiala and Connor Barron play an important role in the squad this season.
The Gers appear to be attempting to reduce the squad’s average age, and Cameron’s signing will only help that cause.
While it may be disheartening for Bears fans to learn that the team did not have the means to sign him in the middle of the season, they will be delighted about his presence this summer.
