Four players whose contracts are about to expire at the end of the 2024–2025 season have not yet had their futures decided by Nottingham Forest.
After 24 games, few would have thought Nottingham Forest would be comfortably positioned in the top four spots of the Premier League. With 14 victories, 5 losses, and 4 ties in the 2024–25 season, the team is having an incredible run of form in just their third season back in the top division.
The club’s astute acquisitions and skillful player management are responsible for this success. Following many scatter-gun approach windows, Forest held their cards close to the vest in January.
Because keeping important players in their team was their top concern, Forest enjoyed a rather quiet January transfer window. Some of the club’s most important players, like Chris Wood and Murillo, have successfully secured new contracts.
A few players’ contracts are about to expire in the summer, even if it appears the team has everything covered. We examine the four players whose futures at the club are still up in the air below.
Aina Ola
Since joining the team in July 2023, the Nigerian football player has participated in 46 games. Aina signed a one-year contract at first, but in 2024, it was extended for a further year.
Although his current contract has an automatic one-year extension clause that the club can activate, it is scheduled to expire again this summer. According to reports, Forest is eager to keep him past that point and is likely to use this option.
It’s important to remember, though, that no official agreement has yet been made. Aina might leave as a free agent if the team doesn’t move fast to keep him on after this season.
Toffolo Harry
After Nottingham Forest got promoted to the Premier League in 2022, Toffolo joined the team. Throughout his tenure with the team, the left-back has made 54 appearances. He first agreed to a two-year contract that ended in January 2024.
The club invoked a one-year extension after he signed a two-year contract upon arrival, allowing them to retain the 29-year-old until the summer of 2025. At the end of the season, he is expected to leave the team and become a free agent.
Boly Willy
Boly was one of 30 players Forest signed during the 2022–2023 campaign. The French-born defender has made 43 appearances for the team since joining.
June 2025 is when his current contract is scheduled to expire. Although Forest has the option to sign Boly for an additional year, it seems doubtful that he will remain with the team.
It’s unclear where the 34-year-old will ultimately end up, but he has been connected to a move to Saudi Arabia.
Hennessey Wayne
In the run-up to the 2022–2023 Premier League season, Nottingham Forest made a lot of signings, including Hennessey. The two-year contract that the Welsh goalie initially signed ended in June 2024.
Despite the announcement that he would be leaving the club, Hennessey continued to train with Forest and was without a club. He re-signed with Forest in January 2025 for a brief contract that ends this summer.
It doesn’t appear likely that he will receive a longer contract given his lack of playing time. When his contract expires, the club can, nevertheless, give him a coaching position.
