Emi Buendia remains one of Leeds United’s top priorities for the January transfer window, although Bayer Leverkusen has expressed interest in signing the Aston Villa ace.
Buendia, of course, excelled under Daniel Farke at Norwich. The Argentina international scored 51 goals in 77 Championship appearances for the Canaries while under the German management at Carrow Road.
Leeds currently lacks a No. 10. Farke has stated that he wants three new players before the deadline, and the top priority for the Whites is competition for Brenden Aaronson in attacking midfield, who has been unreliable.
Buendia has been heavily associated with Leeds. Graeme Bailey informed LeedsUnited.News that he believes a trade is likely, but Bayer Leverkusen expressed interest in Buendia over the weekend.
Florian Plettenberg reveals Emi Buendia’s stance, dealing Leeds a setback.
Interestingly, Buendia started for Aston Villa in the Champions League and impressed in the Midlands club’s 1-0 defeat to Monaco last week. Later today, Aston Villa will face West Ham in the Premier League.
Despite Leeds’ insistence on a reunion between Farke and Buendia, it has been revealed that Buendia is interested in joining Leverkusen. This is according to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg in an update on X.
He stated: “Bayer 04 Leverkusen is still working on a move for Emiliano Buendia. There were additional discussions today, but no deal has been achieved. Buendia is high on Leverkusen’s list.
“A 28-year-old versatile attacking midfielder is available to join Xabi Alonso and Bayer 04 immediately.” But there are still more phases to go,” Plettenberg said on Saturday afternoon, as the window reaches its conclusion.
What other attacking midfielders may Leeds now look to?
Of all the players that Leeds have been linked to over the course of the January transfer window, there really is only a pair of attacking midfielders. One option is Burnley’s Josh Brownhill, but this appears doubtful.

Diego Luna from Real Salt Lake is another option. Luna received accolades from Mauricio Pochettino last week after suffering a fractured nose while with the United States and then laying on an assist against Venezuela.
With Buendia now seemingly unavailable unless a transfer to Leverkusen goes through, a fresh name could emerge from Leeds if The Whites do decide to acquire a new no.10.
