According to a source, Aston Villa have had a wonderful Premier League season so far and have now entered the hunt to sign a brilliant young defender.
Aston Villa have set their January agenda…
Given their start in the English Premier League, Aston Villa will likely be an intriguing destination for possible incomings as they aim for a fantastic run to the Champions League under Unai Emery. Of course, wise recruitment in the January window will be critical to converting their dreams in the West Midlands into reality, and the Spaniard has given an indication of his attitude to the market in a recent news conference, stating:
“Last year was very, very different because we had other circumstances and different circumstances with some players in the squad.” We chose to let some players go rather than sign new ones.
“I’m not thinking too much about it because one or two players could leave, but it’s not clear.” If we are seeking to recruit someone, it is because we are confident he will raise our squad’s level. The window to receive it in January is not really obvious.”
Bringing a striker to Villa Park in the January transfer window has become a goal for the Villans, and Leicester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho is thought to be “among the targets” to help improve their options in the final third. Nonetheless, a defender has emerged on Emery’s radar, and according to a recent source, Aston Villa have joined the race for his signing.
Aston Villa have joined the Ronnie Edwards race…
According to West Ham Zone, Aston Villa have joined the race to sign Peterborough United defender Ronnie Edwards, who is also wanted by West Ham United and Crystal Palace.
According to the source, Roy Hodgson’s Eagles have already turned down three proposals for the England Under-20 international, who has been a staple for the Posh and was previously dubbed a “Rolls Royce” by manager Darren Ferguson.
Edwards, who was born in Harlow, has been a regular starter for Peterborough United this season, scoring two goals in 30 appearances in all competitions (Edwards statistics – Transfermarkt).
In light of the interest in Edwards, The Independent reports that his present club may want a sum of £10 million before allowing the central defender to leave. Barnet are said to have a 50% sell-on clause in place in negotiations, which explains why the Posh have set his asking price so high.
Nonetheless, Edwards appears to be one of the most promising young players in English football and might be a future Villa Park star.
