The former winger has stated that he has brought an end to his long playing career.
Robert Snodgrass, a former Aston Villa loanee, has declared his retirement from professional football. The 36-year-old, who last played for Hearts at the conclusion of last season, has announced his retirement after two decades as a footballer.
The Scot played the majority of his appearances for Leeds United, but also for West Ham and Hull City, and he had a great season on loan at Villa Park.
Steve Bruce signed the winger in 2017/2018, and he was rewarded with seven goals and 14 assists in 40 Championship games. However, Villa fell short of their goal that year, losing to Fulham in the play-off final.
Snodgrass returned to West Ham before moving on to West Brom, Luton, and eventually Hearts, where he earned 28 caps for his country. He resorted to social media to end his career, writing:
“After 20 years of playing professional football, I’ve officially retired and decided to hang up my boots.
“A little lad from the east end of Glasgow got to live his childhood dream for 20 years by playing at ten great clubs, meeting amazing people, and developing relationships with staff and people around those clubs. Getting to represent my country, playing over 600 games, scoring over 100 goals and 100 assists, is something I never imagined doing.
“After being warned in 2014 that I might never play football again due to a career-ending knee injury, I am grateful to have returned and played another 250+ games.
“A big thank you to my family, friends, and agents…for supporting me and being there; I wouldn’t have played for as long if I hadn’t had your support. Thank you to my teammates and coaches
“Finally, a huge thank you to the supporters who drove me forward and supported me through good and bad times, I always tried to play for the badge and what that meant to the fans and the history and traditions of your football club, also knowing the money you paid to come and watch the least you deserved was a minimum of hard work and I hope I showed you that, I will miss this beautiful game but after the last 6 months it’s time to give my knowledge and help to the next generation
