According to Football Insider, Arsenal is considering loaning out Nottingham Forest target Aaron Ramsdale before the transfer deadline.
The Gunners have set a high price for the 26-year-old, but it is understood they may now back down and accept a loan deal late in the window if a permanent proposal does not materialize.
According to sources, Nottingham Forest and Southampton are among the top-flight clubs that “would love” to sign Ramsdale on a temporary loan.
The trade is unlikely to be completed until late in the window, as Arsenal is holding out for high-value bids.
Nottingham Forest might secure Ramsdale loan following Arsenal’s U-turn.
In any case, Football Insider reported on Monday (29 July) that the London club intends to sign a new second-choice goalkeeper before releasing Ramsdale.
Mikel Arteta wants to keep two top-tier goalkeepers in his team for the 2024-25 season, after signing David Raya last summer (2023).
Arsenal are looking for prospective replacements for Ramsdale, who appeared in only 11 games in all competitions last season.
Nottingham Forest have Matt Turner and Matz Sels on their roster, although Odysseas Vlachodimos left for Newcastle earlier this summer.
Southampton’s first-choice shot-stopper Gavin Bazunu suffered a major injury in May, thus Alex McCarthy is now in goal.
