Liverpool boss Arne Slot will aim to bring out the best from the gifted midfielder.
Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rafael van der Vaart feels Ryan Gravenberch has the talent to be a “world-class” player.
Liverpool signed Gravenberch from Bayern Munich last summer, and the Dutchman showed flashes of brilliance during his debut season on Merseyside.
Gravenberch made 38 appearances for the Reds in 2023/24, scoring four goals and assisting two others, and will look to build on his first season as he prepares for his second at Anfield.
The addition of fellow Dutchman Arne Slot should undoubtedly improve his chances of receiving regular game time, but competition for positions in this area of the pitch remains high and could increase further this summer if signings are made in this sector.
Van der Vaart, encouraged by Gravenberch’s performances and confidence in the 22-year-old’s future, told Sportskeeda: “If Bayern and Liverpool want you, you simply go. He truly has the ability to be world-class. If you move from Ajax to Bayern to Liverpool and don’t play much, it’s best to join a club where you know you’ll get a lot of minutes. And he has not done this.
“But, based on the matches he has played, you can see that he is a (class) midfielder. I believe he is quite good. “His potential is incredible.”
It remains to be seen whether Slot can help the Ajax academy graduate elevate his game, but it is apparent Gravenberch believes this management choice will benefit him.
The Netherlands international told Algemeen Dagblad last month that he is thrilled about the appointment of the former Feyenoord coach since he is a coach who enjoys attacking football. That would seem to be appropriate for me. “We’ll see.”
