Liverpool are yet to make a signing during the summer transfer season.
Arne Slot has refuted the assumption that Liverpool will get weaker if they do not make any signings this transfer window.
The Reds are the only team in the Premier League, as well as Europe’s top five divisions, that has not expanded its squad. Manchester City, Arsenal, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur also made significant additions. Liverpool attempted to sign one player, but Martin Zubimendi turned down the opportunity to continue with Real Sociedad.
Some feel that Liverpool’s failure to strengthen means they will be less competitive than they were last season, when they won the Carabao Cup and finished third in the league.
But Slot, speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of his first competitive game against Ipswich Town, claims this is not the case. The head coach stated, “That argument, I don’t comprehend. If you don’t strengthen the squad, you become weaker, which is unusual because you’d usually either stay the same or improve.
“I honestly believe that on the training ground, you can assist athletes progress. This is also what has improved in recent years. The training ground greatly aided the team’s improvement. Maybe what you mean is that if other teams surrounding you strengthen the team, it improves, but it is not always true that bringing people strengthens the team since I believe that every player on the team must have a perspective on playing time.
“When you bring in new players, the enthusiasm in the group sometimes drop, but as I’ve mentioned several times, Richard and I are working to strengthen the squad. If we believe we have found someone, we attempt to bring him in. Unfortunately, the person we believed could help us declined, but we’re thrilled in the background, and Richard is attempting to assist the team, but my emphasis is currently solely on Ipswich.”
