HUDDERSFIELD TOWN head coach Andre Breitenreiter has disclosed one key personnel move for the Terriers’ season finale against promotion-chasing Ipswich Town, which also has consequences for Leeds United.
Ipswich need a point in their big match against Huddersfield, whose relegation will be formally confirmed after the game at Portman Road, to ensure promotion to the Premier League.
To stay in the second division, second-from-bottom Town must win and overcome a 15-goal goal difference with Plymouth Argyle, while also hoping Birmingham, like Argyle, fail to win – with Breitenreiter’s team all but out in reality.
The hosts will be huge favourites in Suffolk, but if Town can surprise everyone and take three points, Leeds can still finish second provided they beat Southampton at Elland Road and have a better goal difference.
Breitenreiter will make a change in goal, with Chris Maxwell set to make his debut under the German, who says the decision has nothing to do with the capability or character of number one Lee Nicholls.
Maxwell’s last outing occurred on Boxing Day.
Breitenreiter, whose team has won two of his 12 games in command, stated: “We will replace the goalie because Chris Maxwell deserves to start one game when I am in charge since he has been professional the entire time and is very clear that he has been there all season and deserves to play.
“We spoke with Lee and Max, and they are both well. This is just one change and has nothing to do with Lee’s behavior, as he is a wonderful person who is disappointed with the team’s outcome.
