Tottenham Hotspur is working hard behind the scenes to get fresh players.
This season, Ange Postecoglou’s team has suffered numerous injuries. That has cost them dearly, particularly in the Premier League, where they are currently 15th in the standings.
Spurs fans are hoping that their team would sign a player or two over the remainder of the transfer window, and effort is underway to accomplish so.
However, there is some good news for Tottenham fans regarding a possible transfer once the season ends.
Angel Gomes, a Lille player, has expressed interest in joining Tottenham rather than Manchester United or West Ham.
The England international has entered the final six months of his contract and will leave France on a free transfer this summer.
TBR Football exclusively revealed in December that Tottenham had held contact with Gomes’ representatives over a move to North London.
We also revealed that West Ham are keen to get Gomes and have made a bid to sign him this summer, while Manchester United are also in the running for his signature.
According to GiveMeSport, ‘the Lille star is anxious to take on a fresh challenge at Hotspur Way instead of the London Stadium or Old Trafford’.
According to the source, ‘Tottenham are putting up a proposal for Gomes’ to lure him to the club after his contract with Lille expires.
Gomes, described as ‘outstanding’ by Antony Elanga on Rising Ballers, is now free to sign a pre-contract with a foreign club, and his preference for Spurs is a significant boost for Postecoglou’s side, as many other clubs want him as well.
TBR initially disclosed Tottenham’s interest in Gomes in May of last year.
Gomes has been compared with Man City and Barcelona stars.
Gomes left Manchester United on a free transfer during the summer of 2020.
The promising England international joined Lille and has blossomed as an outstanding midfielder there. He is meant to play for one of Europe’s major teams, which is almost certain to happen this summer.
Paul McGuinness, Gomes’ former development coach at Manchester United, believes the 24-year-old is similar to big-name midfielders like Barcelona’s Frenkie De Jong and Manchester City’s Rodri.
He told Sky Sports: “A Frenkie de Jong who can receive the ball from the back four, go away, and employ disguises. Someone who can receive the ball with their back to the goal and maintain control throughout the action.
“We have seen Rodri do it for Spain and Manchester City. That is one profile that we would like to strengthen by promoting within our country.
“We looked within the FA to strengthen that type of midfield player. That’s the kind of player Angel is.
