Leeds United will make an immediate return to the Premier League with a shootout victory over Southampton at Wembley Stadium, according to Ally McCoist.
Daniel Farke’s Whites will meet Russell Martin’s Saints in the capital on Sunday (26 May), looking to build on their excellent triumph against Norwich City at Elland Road last time out and gain promotion to the top division.
Despite Southampton’s two victories over Leeds this season, talkSPORT analyst McCoist has backed Farke and his team to win.
On talkSPORT on Monday (20 May, 8:05), he said: “I believe that one will go all the way, and I’m betting on Leeds to win on penalties.”
If Leeds can match the level they showed against Norwich last time out, they will easily beat the Saints. When their assault plays like that, no defense in the Championship can stop them.
“How is that for completely not sitting on the fence, I think that is going to be a great game.”
Will Leeds United win the playoff final, beating Southampton to the Premier League?
While Leeds United fans will hope that their team can get through Sunday’s game in any manner possible, they will also hope that the Whites do not have to go 120 minutes and take penalties to win.
The two sides have been close throughout the season, as evidenced by the fact that there has been nothing to separate them, with the exception of the last day at Elland Road.
If Leeds can match the level they showed against Norwich last time out, they will easily beat the Saints. When their assault plays like that, no defense in the Championship can stop them.
Hopefully, they will turn up at Wembley when it is necessary. Too often in recent weeks, the Whites have failed to show up for the biggest and most important games, and Farke will be hoping to reverse that pattern on Sunday.
