Following Philippe Clement’s dismissal, the rumour mill has already gone into overdrive.
We still have till the summer for a permanent appointment!
Barry Ferguson is expected to be hired as Gers manager on a temporary basis, with plans to take over until the end of the season.
Rangers have reportedly already spoken with Steven Gerrard and Sean Dyche about potential successors to the Belgian.
Gerrard was also set to be floated, but there are plenty other names being considered.
Alan Pardew, the former Premier League Manager of the Year, has also expressed interest, saying “of course” when asked if he is.
Fans, as well as former players and club legends, will all have different ideas about who they want to see step up to the plate.
Gerrard, Muscat, and McInnes named as Rangers candidates
When Ally McCoist appeared on talkSPORT early this morning, he was bound to be asked about all that was going on at Ibrox.
Gerrard, the former manager of the Gers, came to mind, but there were a few more.
Kevin Muscat made it to the final two before being pipped at the post by Clement, and he remains a favorite among many supporters, while Derek McInnes is constantly mentioned.
Coisty would have loved to see Frank Lampard given an opportunity, but he has lately joined Coventry, where he has begun well.
When asked about the next boss, Super Ally told the Breakfast Show, “Dear me, that is a question. People who come to mind right away. Steven Gerrard’s achievements would undoubtedly factor into the decision.
“It won’t happen now, but I’d have gambled on Frank Lampard before he went to Coventry.” I do not see that occurring.
“Kevin Muscat did well. I believe I’m correct in saying he’s won three leagues in three separate countries. There could be another choice.
“Derek McInnes would factor into the equation. He is an excellent manager at Kilmarnock, knowing the league, players, and club. There are one or two choices. But I don’t believe there are any obvious choices right now either.”
Rangers would have won the league if Shankland had signed.
McCoist thinks that Clement should not bear sole responsibility for the club’s failure, as the players and others are also to blame.
And he believes the league would have been won last season if Gers had paid the money Hearts sought for Lawrence Shankland.
He added, “Yes, but he is also responsible for his own failures. You take that job, you can complain about recruitment, you can complain about the next thing, you’ll get fired, but the players won’t, and that’s what occurred.
“Of course, he must take responsibility. By no means do I believe it is all his fault.
“I truly believe that if they had gone last year and signed Lawrence Shankland (in January), they could have won the league.
“If they had handed Hearts whatever they wanted, Shankland might have scored the league-winning goals for Rangers.
“It wasn’t to be; Celtic fought back and won the league. It’s heartbreaking to observe the club’s downfall, both on and off the pitch, since they won the league and were defeated in the Europa League Final.
