Former Leeds United midfielder Alex Mowatt has messaged Alex Cairns after his return to Elland Road.
Leeds were eager to announce the signing of the 31-year-old from Salford following the sale of Kristoffer Klaesson.
Mowatt recently agreed a contract extension with Championship rivals West Brom, where Leeds will play their first away game next season.
“Nice Alan, hair looks class,” he posted on Instagram.
What will Alex Cairns bring to Leeds United?
Although the arrival of the Salford City goalkeeper was unexpected, it makes sense.
Cairns played in every League Two game for his former club last season and kept eight clean sheets.
During those games, he conceded 82 goals, but luckily for Whites fans, he will only be their third-choice goalkeeper.
Following the permanent sale of last season’s third-choice Klaesson [VG, 7 July], Daniel Farke needed to add to his squad.
Many would have rather to see a youth prospect break into the first-team squad, but the fact that the 31-year-old only cost Leeds a little amount and is a homegrown player all make a transaction appear reasonable.
Cairns is unlikely to represent the Whites of Leeds throughout the season unless Karl Darlow or Illan Meslier are injured.
Or, if the Frenchman goes this summer [La Provence, 28 June], the former Salford City player might be utilized as a backup for the foreseeable future.
