According to Alan Brazil, Leeds United’s failure to capitalize on opportunities could cost them dearly in the Championship promotion chase.
Speaking on talkSPORT (5 February, 7:40am), Brazil questioned if the Whites, despite being “exciting” to watch, are clinical enough in the game they are anticipated to win.
Daniel Farke’s side is the highest scorers in the Championship and has the division’s greatest goal differential by far, although they have been held to disappointing draws by Burnley and Blackburn in 2025.
Brazil’s response: “Leeds are so exciting, but [in] the games I think they’re going to score three and four, they don’t – they make a lot of chances but miss a lot of chances, is that going to catch up on them?”
Leeds United cannot accomplish much more in front of the goal.
Brazil must have missed the Peacocks’ last performance in the second tier, as they went one step further than scoring “three and four” in a game by combining the two to defeat Cardiff City 7-0 on Saturday (1 February).
With 60 goals scored, 11 ahead of the next-best sides’ 49 – held by play-off chasing Norwich City and Middlesbrough – and a goal difference of +41, the Whites are well ahead of the pack.
That impressive goal difference is not only the best of any team in England’s top four divisions, but it is also more than Burnley, who are second in the standings behind Leeds, have scored, with the Clarets scoring only 37 goals so far.
As a result, it’s difficult to see where additional goals will come from at Elland Road, but Farke’s pursuit of another centre-forward late in the transfer window suggests he wants to see more.
It remains to be seen whether the Whites, who have not strengthened in the market in comparison to their nearest competitors, will have enough to move up at the end of the season, but for the time being, they are doing well.
