Alan Brazil admits Leeds United have proven him wrong so far this season.
The talkSPORT broadcaster and former Manchester United striker expressed concern for Daniel Farke’s side after selling several of their best players, but the team went unbeaten in August, winning their final two games.
The Whites will face Burnley at Elland Road next, with the team expected to compete with them for a spot back in the Premier League by the end of the season.
Brazil said on talkSPORT Breakfast with Dean Saunders [13 September, 06:58]: “I thought Leeds were going to struggle a bit with the players they’ve sold, but no.”
Leeds United prove the pundits wrong.
While Leeds United were eventually forced to sell players such as Georginio Rutter, Crysencio Summerville, and Archie Gray to Premier League clubs, they still boast one of, if not the, strongest squads in the Championship.
The club and Farke would have been well prepared to lose some of their top talent the moment the full-time whistle at Wembley Stadium signaled the end of an excruciating 2023-24 season.
There have been some positives, such as securing a new deal for Willy Gnonto, who has previously been chastised for attempting to leave Elland Road.
Leeds remains light in many areas due to a small squad, and they did miss out on several targets, but the outlook after the transfer deadline appeared significantly better than in days prior, as Manor Solomon, Ao Tanaka, and Isaac Schmidt all arrived late.
Two ties to start the season raised some concerns, but two wins since then, as well as a hopeful conclusion to the window, have revived West Yorkshire’s confidence.
