Tottenham Hotspur’s rocky 2024-25 Premier League season has taken a more optimistic turn, with back-to-back victories helping to calm the ship following a poor run of results.
Spurs’ most recent win, a narrow but hard-fought 1-0 victory over Manchester United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, has propelled them to 12th position in the league table, providing a ray of optimism for a brighter finish to the season.
Tottenham’s third win over United this season in all competitions came thanks to James Maddison’s clinical strike 13 minutes in.
However, while Spurs’ league position has stabilized for the time being, a recent prognosis from Opta’s AI supercomputer says that Tottenham’s chances of getting into the European places are fading.
According to the most recent data, Spurs are most likely to finish 12th, with an 18.1% chance of remaining in their current position. The closest alternatives are 11th and 13th, bolstering expectations that the Lilwhites will finish the season in the bottom half of the league.
The supercomputer’s projection was even bleaker for Manchester United, who have plummeted to 15th place following their defeat to Tottenham. According to Opta’s estimate, United’s most likely finish is 14th, with only a 19% probability of moving up, as the prospect of a stunning relegation struggle grows greater for the Old Trafford club.
Liverpool leads the table with an 85.8% likelihood of winning the title.
Despite the AI’s prognosis, Tottenham will stay determined to defy the odds. With key players progressively returning from injury and momentum building, Ange Postecoglou’s team will look to put together a winning streak, climb the table, and finish the season on a positive note.
The next test is against Ipswich Town, which provides another opportunity to continue the upward trajectory.
